Keukenhof Castle
Wondering where the name ‘Keukenhof’ actually comes from? It owes its name to Keukenhof Castle, where a beautiful garden was laid out in the 15th century by Countess Jacoba van Beieren. Jacoba grew herbs and other ingredients for her kitchen in her garden there. That's why it was called the ‘Keukenhof’. In 1950, the garden was made available for flower exhibitions. Since then, the Keukenhof has grown in popularity and is now world-famous thanks to the beautiful flower bulbs that bloom there every year.
Royal Pavilions
Keukenhof has several pavilions named after members of the Dutch royal family. Among them, you can admire the Oranje Nassau Pavilion, the Willem Alexander Pavilion, the Wilhelmina Pavilion, the Juliana Pavilion and the Beatrix Pavilion.
Flower shows in Keukenhof
Besides the pavilions, the Keukenhof also features spectacular flower shows. Here, growers present a wide variety of flowers and plants in all shapes and colours, obviously of top quality.
Keukenhof flower park
Although the original emphasis is on flower bulbs, the Keukenhof offers much more. In the nature garden, for example, shrubs and perennials are combined with wild bulbous plants, creating a unique flora. The historical garden displays old tulip varieties and tells the story of the long journey the tulip made before it reached the Netherlands. In the inspiration gardens, visitors can get plenty of ideas for their own gardens.
There is also plenty to do for children at Keukenhof. There is a maze, a play and animal meadow and a Miffy playground. Keukenhof has also set up a special treasure hunt, leading them to the most beautiful spots in the park!
Besides walking and admiring all the flowers, you can also take a boat trip or visit exhibitions. In short: there is plenty to do at Keukenhof.
